Subscribing to Japanese cosplay creators: myfans or Patreon?
Japanese cosplay creators split across two subscription systems: myfans, a Japanese fan-club platform built around plans, and Patreon, the global membership platform. This compares what a fan actually feels — billing, refunds, cancellation, discovery — from each platform's official help. The creator list follows.
Money
- myfans: yen prices; Visa/Mastercard/JCB, BitCash, Paidy, atone, deferred payment; debit and prepaid explicitly usable; PayPal not on the official list. Purchase fee at checkout (amount unpublished). Phone verification before any payment; overseas numbers not stated.
- Patreon: card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, JCB, Diners Club), PayPal, Apple Pay, Venmo (US). Its supported-currency table lists 16 member currencies; yen is not among them. Sales tax/VAT added where required. A member-side processing fee is not stated in the member help we checked.
Refunds — the starkest difference
- myfans: no refunds; no proration; disclosure page says fees aren't returned for any reason after contract.
- Patreon: members can request a refund for web purchases from Billing History within 60 days; Patreon decides at its sole discretion (examples: technical errors, charged after cancelling, cancelling within 48 hours without viewing). Per-creation billing excluded; Apple in-app purchases go through Apple.
Cancellation
- myfans: monthly plan access ends the day you cancel 3/6/12-month bundles cancelled on or after 14 Nov 2025 19:10 (JST) stay viewable until the end of their term; rules can differ by sign-up date, so check the cancellation screen..
- Patreon: depends on the creator's billing model. Subscription billing: access until the next billing date; annual: the paid year. Monthly non-upfront and per-creation: access ends on cancelling.
Discovery
- myfans: genres, tags, creators, posts; up to 3 genre/tag conditions; genre rankings. Creators ID-verified before posting or earning.
- Patreon: Explore tab (search, topics, personalised feeds). Adult pages are categorised Adult/18+; you must turn on "See 18+ creators" and confirm you are over 18. Adult creators complete an age-verification step.
Messages and statements
- Patreon: message a creator with a processed payment or active membership. Statements show "PATREON* Membership"; creator names not included.
- myfans: message rooms open depending on usage and settings; DM-exclusive sales are final. Statement name deliberately not "myfans", exact name unpublished.
Which fits which fan?
myfans: the creator is there, you want yen pricing, genre/tag search for Japanese fan-club content and ID-verified creators — accepting no refunds and same-day cancellation. Patreon: the creator is there and you value PayPal, a refund-request route and period-end access (subscription billing) — accepting currency conversion and a global discovery feed.
