Short answer
MyFans won’t take any payment until you verify a phone number. It takes a minute with your own mobile, as long as you know the Japanese button names and the few rules that trip people up.
Step by step
- Open phone verificationMyFans asks you to verify before your first payment. You can also find it later under Account → Settings → 電話番号認証 (phone verification).
- Enter your mobile numberUse a smartphone or mobile number that can receive SMS or calls. Numbers starting with 050 aren’t accepted.
- Choose SMS or voice callPress SMSで取得 (get by SMS) for a text with a 6-digit code, or 音声通話で取得 (get by voice call) for an automated call that reads the code out.
- Enter the codeType the 6-digit code and press 認証する (verify). That completes verification.
Why MyFans asks for your number
MyFans says it uses phone verification as a security measure, and that you can’t pay for anything — a plan, a single post, a tip — until your number is verified. MyFans also requires your name and phone number for any payment.
Our suggestion: verify as soon as you sign up, rather than at the moment you want to subscribe, so a missing SMS doesn’t hold up your first purchase. If you later change your number, you verify the new one the same way — see the section on changing your number below.
Which numbers work
MyFans asks for a smartphone or mobile phone number. Its help centre names one exclusion: numbers beginning with 050. A non-Japanese mobile number works too, so fans in the US, UK, Canada or Australia can use their own.
You don’t need a Japanese number to verify and pay by card. A Japanese SMS-capable number matters only for Paidy, atone and deferred payment, which most overseas fans won’t use anyway — see paying without a credit card.
We don’t recommend rented, temporary or “virtual” numbers sold for verification. This is our advice, not MyFans policy: the number stays tied to your account, and if it stops working you can’t receive a new code when you need one.
If the SMS doesn’t arrive
MyFans suggests checking, in order: that you typed the number correctly; that your plan can receive SMS; that you haven’t blocked SMS; and that there’s no signal problem or network outage. SMS can also be slow when the sending centre is busy, so give it a little time.
Spam filters are a common cause. MyFans says to make sure your phone isn’t set to refuse SMS, or to accept messages only from numbers in your contacts, and to allow messages from all numbers. Settings differ by phone company, so check your carrier’s help pages.
If SMS still won’t come through, try the voice-call option instead.
If an error appears on the verification screen
MyFans says an error can appear when Google Translate or another external translation tool is switched on. Turn browser translation off and try again. To read the screen in English, use MyFans’ own language setting (言語設定) instead; MyFans says browser page translation can cause display and operation problems across the site.
One number, one account
A phone number can verify only one MyFans account. You can open a second account with a different email address, but not verify it with the same number.
MyFans says it gets many messages from people who made a second account and then found that phone verification fails or they can’t log in. If you’ve forgotten your login details, don’t open a new account: contact MyFans through its contact form instead.
To get back into your original account, MyFans suggests: try any other email address you might have used; check upper and lower case carefully; try “Twitterでログイン” (log in with X) if you signed up through X; or reset your password. If you fail several times in a row, login may be blocked for 3–4 days, so don’t keep retrying. Our sign-up and login guide goes through each case.
If you change your number
Go to Account → Settings → 電話番号認証, choose 電話番号を変更する (change phone number), enter the new number and verify it the same way.
At checkout
Separately from verification, MyFans requires your name and phone number at checkout and won’t process a payment without them.
Once you’re verified and those details are in, payment problems are usually about the card itself — see card declined and error messages.

Quick answers
Do I need a Japanese phone number for MyFans?
No. Your own mobile number works for verification and card payment. Only numbers starting with 050 are excluded.
Can I use the same number on two MyFans accounts?
No. One number can verify only one account. If you’ve lost access to your first account, contact MyFans support rather than opening another.
The SMS never came. What now?
Check the number and your SMS spam settings, allow messages from all numbers, wait a little, then try the voice-call option (音声通話で取得).
