Short answer
You’ve found a creator’s shop page or fan club, the item looks perfect, and then the description is a wall of kanji. Good news: the same dozen or so words come up again and again. Learn these and you’ll know what you’re getting, whether it’s limited, and whether you can still buy it.
Tokuten and gentei
The Digital Daijisen dictionary defines 特典 (とくてん, tokuten) as a benefit or special treatment given specially, with the example “会員の特典” (members’ perks). The Seisen-ban Nihon Kokugo Daijiten adds the sense of special treatment or privilege. On a shop page, it marks the extra you get for buying or belonging.
限定 (げんてい, gentei) means limiting the scope or quantity of something. The dictionary’s own examples are “参加資格を限定する” (limiting who can take part) and “200部限定” (limited to 200 copies). So when you see a word ending in 限定, ask what’s being limited: who can buy, how many exist, or for how long.
限定版 (genteiban), a limited edition, is a publication with a restricted print run. The Library and Information Science Glossary adds that such runs are typically 200 to 500 copies, sometimes under 10; they aren’t reprinted from the same plates, often cost more, may be numbered or signed, and are sometimes issued as a deluxe edition alongside the regular one.

| 限定版 | genteiban | Limited edition, a small print run |
| 新刊 | shinkan | A newly published book; a new release |
| 既刊 | kikan | Already published; a back title |
| 再版 | saihan | A reprint |
| 完売 | kanbai | Sold out |
| 品切れ | shinagire | Out of stock |
| 物販 | buppan | Selling physical goods |
| 通販 | tsūhan | Mail order, online ordering |
| 頒布 | hanpu | Distributing items widely |
| 先着 | senchaku | Arriving first, as in first-come order |
New, old and sold out
新刊 (shinkan) means publishing a new book, or the book itself, while 既刊 (kikan) means something already published. 再版 (saihan) is a reprint from the same plates. Watch the near-twin 再販 (also saihan): its dictionary meanings are reselling stock you bought, or short for resale price maintenance.
完売 (kanbai) means selling out completely, as in “即日完売” (sold out on the day), and 品切れ (shinagire) means stock has run out. 先着 (senchaku) means arriving first, and “先着順” means first come, first served.
物販 (buppan), short for 物品販売, means selling physical goods, and the dictionary’s example is literally an idol-goods stall. 通販 (tsūhan) is short for 通信販売, mail order. 頒布 (hanpu) means distributing items widely.
Words you’ll meet on fan platforms
Each platform has its own “limited” vocabulary. On FANBOX, 支援者限定投稿 are supporter-only posts. On Fantia, 限定コンテンツ is content only members of the matching plan can view, and 入会期限 is a joining deadline: only people who joined by then can see that content.
On BOOTH, an おまけファイル (bonus file) is a download only buyers of a physical item can get, meant as a purchase perk. 匿名配送 is anonymous shipping, where BOOTH says neither seller nor buyer has to reveal personal details. And a シークレット公開 (secret listing) is an item that opens only to people who have the page URL and the 合言葉 (passphrase).

Putting it together
Read a description in this order: is it 物販 or a download, is there a 特典, and what does the 限定 apply to? Then check whether it’s 完売 before you fall in love. For profile words such as 素人 or 顔出し, our Japanese adult creator terms guide picks up where this one leaves off.
On JapanCreatorFind, every creator is a Japan-based MyFans creator with an English profile, prices in yen and a link to their own MyFans page. MyFans is for adults only: no one under 18, and no high school students even at 18. Browse all creators.
