Short answer
What does “Japanese amateur” really mean? Shirōto (素人, often spelled shirouto or shiroto) is the Japanese word for “amateur” — one of the biggest search words in Japanese adult media and one of the most common on MyFans profiles. Here’s what it means, where it comes from, and what it tells you about a creator.
The dictionary meaning
The Digital Daijisen dictionary defines 素人 as someone with little experience of a field, who lacks its skills or knowledge, or who doesn’t work in it professionally. Its example is “素人とは思えぬみごとな芸”: a performance too good to believe it came from an amateur.
The opposite is 玄人 (kurōto), a professional or expert. The pair is everyday Japanese: a 素人 cook, a 玄人 carpenter.
Where the word comes from
The dictionaries disagree slightly. Digital Daijisen says shirōto is a sound change from shirohito (白人, “white person”), while the Nihon Kokugo Daijiten traces it to shirahito. Both draw the same picture: shiro, “white” or “plain”, against kuro, “black”, in kurōto.
Both dictionaries also record an older sense: an ordinary woman, as opposed to women working in the old entertainment districts. That history is part of why the word carries an “ordinary, not a professional” feeling in adult media today.
What 素人 means on MyFans
On MyFans, 素人 usually marks a creator who films and runs their own page: no studio, no agency, no stage name chosen by a label. You also see it in combinations such as 素人カップル (amateur couple) and 素人ハメ撮り (self-filmed amateur POV).
It is a self-description, not a certificate. Some “amateur” channels are very polished, and some small studios use the word too. What matters is that on MyFans every performer has gone through the site’s contract and age checks, and only people 18 or over can use it.
| Term | Reading | Meaning |
