Ura-aka (裏垢) Meaning: Japan’s “Secret Account” Explained

Updated and checked against the MyFans help centre on 11 October 2026

Short answer

Ura-aka (裏アカ, 裏垢) is short for 裏アカウント, “back account”: a social media account that doesn’t reveal who the owner is. Its opposite is the omote-aka (表アカ), the public, everyday account. On MyFans, 裏垢 signals a hidden, private side kept separate from the creator’s ordinary life. Search 裏垢 on MyFans to find these creators.

Spotted 裏アカ in a bio and wondered what’s “secret” about it? Ura-aka (裏アカ or 裏垢) is Japanese internet slang for a secret account — you’ll see it on X (Twitter) bios and MyFans names like “地味OLの裏アカ” (“a plain office worker’s secret account”). Here’s what the word means and what it signals on a creator’s page.

What the word means

The Digital Daijisen dictionary lists 裏アカ as an abbreviation of 裏アカウント. 裏 (ura) means “back” or “hidden side”, and アカ (aka) is short for アカウント, “account”. People often write 垢 (aka, literally “grime”) instead, simply because it is read the same way and is quicker to type.

The Kyodo News glossary describes an ura-aka as a social media account that doesn’t reveal personal information. You can use any name, and it gives Twitter and Instagram as examples. Because no real name is needed, it notes, such accounts are sometimes used for extreme posts.

Ura-aka vs omote-aka

The opposite of 裏 is 表 (omote, “front”), so the public account is the 表アカ. Someone might keep a 表アカ under their real name for friends and work, and an 裏アカ for hobbies, venting or a side they don’t share at work.

What 裏垢 means on MyFans

For creators, “裏垢” is a theme as much as a description: the idea of an ordinary person, an office worker, a married woman, an ordinary guy, sharing a side nobody at work knows about. Display names like “裏垢男子” (secret-account guy) or “〇〇の裏アカ” build on that.

Like every MyFans page, these are adults who have gone through MyFans’ contract and age checks, and explicit areas are mosaicked. The word doesn’t change any of the site’s rules.
