Kaodashi Meaning: What Does 顔出し (Face Shown) Mean?

Updated and checked against the MyFans help centre on 11 October 2026

Short answer

Kaodashi (顔出し, かおだし) means showing your face publicly. The Digital Daijisen dictionary lists this sense for TV, magazines and social media. On MyFans profiles you’ll see 顔出し (face shown), 顔出しなし or 顔出しNG (face not shown), and 顔出しあり (includes face-shown posts). Many Japanese creators keep their face private.

Seen “顔出し” on a profile and wondered why it’s such a big deal? Kaodashi means showing your face — and since many creators keep theirs hidden, it’s one of the first things fans look for, and one of the first things creators mention.

What 顔出し means

顔 (kao) is “face” and 出し (dashi) comes from 出す, “to put out” or “to show”. The Digital Daijisen dictionary gives several older senses, such as dropping in on someone or turning up to a meeting. The one you’ll see on profiles is the newest: making your face public on TV, in magazines or on social media.

Plan names often use the word too: some creators keep face-shown posts for their top plan only, which is why a profile may say 顔出しは上位プランのみ (face shown on the top plan only).

Why so many Japanese creators hide their face

Many creators keep their face private to separate their online life from work, family and friends — the same idea behind 裏垢, the “secret account” (see our ura-aka guide). Masks, stickers, phones held in front of the face and cropped shots are all common. It’s a normal choice in Japan, not a sign of a low-effort page.

Always respect it. Don’t ask a creator to show their face, and never try to identify anyone. Many creators state this rule on their own profiles.
