Messaging Japanese Creators on MyFans in English

Updated 8 October 2026 · Based on MyFans’ official help centre

Messaging a Japanese creator on MyFans works a little differently from other platforms, and most creators write in Japanese. This guide explains when you can send a message, what paid DMs are, and how to write something a creator can easily read.

You message a creator from Messages (メッセージ) → the Creator tab (クリエイター). You can only write once the creator has opened a message room for you, and creators can also switch off incoming messages. Some creators send paid, DM-only content with its own price and sometimes a deadline. Keep your messages short, polite and simple so they translate cleanly.

Step by step

  1. Open MessagesTap Messages (メッセージ), then the Creator tab (クリエイター), and open the thread with the creator. Unread threads are marked in the list.
  2. Check the room is openIf you see “メッセージルームが開放されていません” (the message room is not open), you can’t send yet — and fans can’t open the room themselves.
  3. Write and sendType your message in the thread and tap send. Keep it short and polite; see the writing tips below.
  4. Check paid DMs before buyingA DM-only sale shows a thumbnail, a price and a buy button (購入する). Check the price, any countdown and the confirmation screen before you pay.

How messages work on MyFans

Messages are one of the basic things any MyFans user can do, alongside following, liking, subscribing, buying single posts and tipping. Your conversations with creators are under Messages (メッセージ) → Creator (クリエイター), one thread per creator.

Messages from MyFans itself, and from event organisers, arrive separately under the 運営事務局 (MyFans office) tab, each in its own thread. That tab is where to look for official notices rather than creator messages.

Creators can message their followers, fans who have tipped and plan subscribers as a group, and can narrow a group message by how many months someone has stayed subscribed. So a message that reaches you in a creator thread may be a group announcement rather than a personal note.

When you can’t send a message

The most common reason is that the creator hasn’t opened a message room for you. MyFans says rooms open depending on your history with the creator and their settings, and that a fan can’t open one on their own. Being one of a creator’s fans (ファン) — currently in one of their plans, free plans included, or having bought a single post or sent a tip or super comment — is part of that history, though MyFans doesn’t publish the exact rule.

A creator can also restrict incoming messages in their account settings. In that case you’ll see a notice such as “メッセージのやりとりはできません” (messaging isn’t available) or the message button won’t work, and only the creator can change it. You also can’t message a creator who has blocked you.

If you have more than one MyFans account, check you’re logged in to the one you used with that creator. If nothing else explains it, reload the page and try again, then contact MyFans support with the error message shown.

Blocking works both ways: if you block a creator, any follow between you is removed and your messages with them are hidden. See privacy and account settings for where your blocked list lives.

Paid DMs: DM-only sales

Some creators sell content only through messages (DM限定販売). It arrives as a locked thumbnail with a price and a buy button; you see the full photos or video only after you pay. Only people the creator sent it to can buy it — it doesn’t appear in their feed or in search.

The price is set per message, so the same content sent to you twice can carry two different prices. The one in the DM you received is the one that applies.

A creator can add a buying deadline of up to three days. The DM then shows a countdown (“あと◯日”, then hours, minutes and seconds), and after it passes you’ll see “購入期限切れ” (deadline passed). A creator can also limit the number of copies, from 1 to 100: you’ll see “限定◯本” (limited to ◯), “残り◯本” (◯ left) and finally “完売” (sold out). If several people buy at once near the end, you can be shown “sold out” mid-checkout.

You can pay by Visa, Mastercard or JCB card, as well as Japanese options that most overseas fans can’t use. After buying, you can rewatch it from the DM or from Account → Purchased/Saved (購入・保存) → Library (ライブラリ) → Purchase history (購入履歴). MyFans says it doesn’t, in principle, cancel or refund DM purchases, and content MyFans removes may stop being viewable even after you’ve paid.

What creators can send you

MyFans reviews messages and attachments under the same content rules as posts. That includes its mosaic requirement: a creator may not send uncensored images or video in a DM, or hint that they’ll distribute uncensored content. Our uncensored guide explains those rules.

If anything in a DM looks wrong to you, the safest option is not to buy and, where needed, to use the block or report tools.

Writing to a creator who reads Japanese

This part is general advice rather than MyFans policy. Most creators read Japanese first, so short, simple sentences in plain English translate far better than slang or long paragraphs. One idea per sentence works best.

A brief greeting, a specific compliment about a post, and a clear question if you have one is usually enough. Many fans run their message through a translation app and paste both the English and the Japanese version.

Use a separate translation app rather than translating MyFans pages in your browser. MyFans warns that browser page translation can break parts of the site, and recommends its own language setting (言語設定) for the interface instead. Our MyFans in English guide lists the Japanese button names you’ll see.

Be patient. Creators set their own pace for replies, and many are posting from a different time zone to yours.

Quick answers

Does it cost money to send a creator a message?

MyFans’ help centre doesn’t describe a charge for ordinary messages. DM-only content a creator sells to you is paid, at the price shown in that DM. Tips are covered in our tips, single posts and messages guide.

Why does it say the message room is not open?

The creator hasn’t opened a room for you yet. MyFans says this depends on your history with the creator and their settings, and fans can’t open a room themselves.

Can I get a refund on a DM-only purchase?

MyFans says DM-only purchases are, in principle, not cancelled or refunded. Check the price and any deadline before you tap buy.

Can I buy a DM-only sale after the countdown ends?

No. Once the deadline passes it shows “購入期限切れ”, and trying to buy shows that the sale has ended.
