Hitozuma and Jukujo Meaning: 人妻 and 熟女 Explained

Updated and checked against the MyFans help centre on 11 October 2026

Short answer

Hitozuma (人妻, ひとづま) means “married woman”, and in dictionaries specifically “someone else’s wife”. Jukujo (熟女, じゅくじょ) means “mature woman”: the Digital Daijisen dictionary defines it as a woman in her 30s to 50s with a mature allure. On creator profiles they work as themes, so follow how each creator describes herself. On MyFans, search 人妻 or 熟女.

Keep seeing 人妻 and 熟女 in names, titles and tags? Hitozuma and jukujo are two of the Japanese words overseas fans run into most. Both get translated as “MILF” — but they don’t mean quite the same thing. Here are the dictionary meanings and how creators use them.

What 人妻 (hitozuma) means

Written 人 (person, other people) plus 妻 (wife), hitozuma is an old word. The Digital Daijisen dictionary gives its main meaning as “another person’s wife”, and also simply “a married woman”. The Nihon Kokugo Daijiten defines it as another person’s spouse.

That “someone else’s wife” sense is why the word is so common in Japanese adult media: it sets up a “wife next door” or forbidden-romance theme. On a creator profile it describes the theme the creator has chosen. We don’t check anyone’s private life, and you shouldn’t assume it either.

What 熟女 (jukujo) means

Jukujo combines 熟 (ripe, mature) and 女 (woman). Digital Daijisen defines it as “a woman in her 30s to 50s with a mature allure”. That is the closest Japanese word to MILF.

Japanese Wikipedia notes that in adult video, “jukujo” is a genre label more than an age, and that married-woman themes are often filed under it. That is why the two words so often appear together, and why the age attached to the label is loose.

Hitozuma vs jukujo vs MILF

MILF in English is mostly about age and attraction. Hitozuma is about being married, so a hitozuma creator can be in her 20s. Jukujo is about maturity, so a jukujo creator doesn’t have to present as married. Many creators use both words, for example “人妻・熟女”, to reach both audiences.

If you are translating a profile, “married woman” for 人妻 and “mature woman” for 熟女 keep the difference. Our glossary of Japanese creator terms lists more profile words.
