Short answer
Backing a creator you love shouldn’t mean handing over your life story. If you’re wondering what a FANBOX creator actually learns about you when you hit “支援する”, the short answer is: less than you might fear. Here’s what they see, what they don’t, and the few places where your name can show up.
What the creator can see
FANBOX tells creators your pixivFANBOX username when you start supporting them, and they can also check it on their fan list page. That list shows each current supporter’s username plan by plan, and a separate page shows a detailed month-by-month history of support.
The fan list also shows “累計月数” (cumulative months): how many months in total you’ve supported the plan you’re on now. Months on a pricier plan count towards it; months on a cheaper plan don’t.
Creators use this information to reach their fans, too. With FANBOX’s “おたより” (otayori) feature, a creator can send an announcement to all supporters and followers, to all supporters, to the supporters of a particular plan, or to followers only, and can narrow a plan’s supporters by how many months they’ve backed it. Only the people who match can read it.
What the creator can’t see
FANBOX says the payment information you registered at checkout is not passed on to creators. On your credit card statement, the charge appears under FANBOX’s name, such as “PIXIV FANBOX” or “ピクシブフアンボツクス”, rather than the creator’s name. The exact wording depends on your card company.
| Information | Visible to the creator? | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Your pixivFANBOX username | Yes | Support notification and fan list |
| Which plan you support | Yes | Fan list, sorted by plan |
| Months supported | Yes | “累計月数” on the fan list |
| Your monthly support history | Yes | The creator’s support details page |
| Your payment details | No | Not passed on to creators |
| Creator’s name on your card statement | No | It shows FANBOX’s name instead |
Places your name can appear
Comments are public or private depending on the post. On a public post, anyone can write and read comments. On a supporter-only post, only the creator and supporters can.
Messages run through pixiv’s messaging feature, so the name shown is the nickname you set on pixiv. FANBOX warns it can differ from your FANBOX username, which is worth knowing if you keep the two separate on purpose.
Notifications come by email and on-site, and you can choose which ones you get in your settings. Even if you turn them all off, FANBOX still sends important emails from its operators.
How BOOTH and Fantia compare
On BOOTH, following a shop is never shown to the owner. For downloads and for items sent by warehouse or anonymous shipping, the shop owner sees only a user identification code, a unique number that BOOTH says can’t be used to identify you. Only items the owner ships from home share your name, address and phone number, and those details are hidden 30 days after the order is marked as shipped.
Fantia says joining a fan club doesn’t pass your email address or card details to the creator; only physical goods shipped from the creator’s home share your name, address and phone number. If you pay by bank transfer, your statement shows “ファンティア” rather than the item name.
Simple habits for staying private
Because your username is the one thing a creator always sees, pick one you’re comfortable sharing. If you use pixiv messages, check your pixiv nickname too. And on BOOTH, digital items and anonymous shipping keep your address to yourself.
On MyFans, read our account settings and privacy guide and is MyFans safe? before you join. On JapanCreatorFind, every creator is a Japan-based MyFans creator with an English profile, prices in yen and a link to their own MyFans page. Browse all creators.
