FANBOX Follow vs Support: What’s the Difference?

Updated and checked against the MyFans help centre on 11 October 2026

Short answer

Following a FANBOX creator is a single click on “+フォロー” that adds them to your list of followed creators; their public posts are open to everyone anyway. Supporting means choosing one of their monthly plans, which unlocks the supporter-only posts for that plan, plus comments on those posts and the creator’s fan card. When you start supporting, your follow switches to “supporting” automatically, because supporting includes everything following does.

On a FANBOX creator’s page you’ll see two buttons that look like they do the same thing: “+フォロー” (follow) and “支援する” (support). They don’t. One keeps you in the loop; the other opens the door to supporter-only posts. Here’s exactly what each one gets you, and how to move between them.

Following: the free-and-easy way to keep track

To follow, open the creator’s top page and click “+フォロー” to the right of their name. Everyone you follow is listed on your “フォロー中のクリエイター” (creators you follow) page. To unfollow, click the “フォロー中” (following) button in the same spot.

If you already follow artists on pixiv, FANBOX can help: the “クリエイターを探す” (find creators) page shows them at the bottom under “pixivでフォロー中”, as long as they use FANBOX and have set up a plan. You can also search by creator name or tag.

As a follower you can read any post the creator makes public, since public posts are open to all users, and comment on them. Creators can also send “おたより” (otayori, short announcements) to followers who haven’t started supporting yet.

Supporting: where the supporter-only posts are

Supporter-only posts open when you support a creator through one of their plans. You choose one plan per creator, and a higher-priced plan lets you see the posts of every cheaper plan too. For example, FANBOX describes a creator with ¥500, ¥1,000 and ¥5,000 plans: the ¥1,000 plan opens public posts plus plans A and B, while ¥5,000 opens all three.

Supporting also brings a few extras. Comments on supporter-only posts can be written and read only by the creator and supporters. Creators can make a virtual fan card for each plan, given only to supporters as proof you back them. And creators can send otayori to all supporters, or narrow it to a particular plan and to how many months you’ve supported.

Moving from one to the other

Start supporting a creator you follow and FANBOX switches your status from following to supporting automatically. That’s why you won’t see a follow button on a creator you already support: FANBOX says everything following does is already included in supporting.

Stopping works the other way. After you stop supporting, you return to following and your fan card stops being shown, but you can still read that plan’s supporter-only posts until the end of the month. From next month they close, and otayori sent to supporters will no longer reach you, even if you supported right up until the day before.

One thing to note: FANBOX counts your “支援月数” (months supported) cumulatively, so a gap between support periods doesn’t reset it.

If a creator blocks you

Creators can block users through pixiv. FANBOX explains that a block removes your follow at once and stops new support, plan changes and comments. If you were supporting, you can still see supporter-only posts for the rest of that month; after that, support stops automatically and only public posts stay visible.

How this compares with MyFans

MyFans draws the line in a similar place. It calls anyone who is in a plan (including a free one), has bought a single post or has sent a tip a “fan” of that creator. Posts not tied to a plan or a single purchase are visible to every user, but posts in a free plan still need you to join that plan first.

Quick answers

Do I need to follow a FANBOX creator before supporting them?

No. Supporting includes everything following does, and if you already follow them, your status switches to supporting automatically.

Can I see supporter-only posts just by following?

No. Supporter-only posts open only when you support a creator through one of their plans.

What happens to my follow when I stop supporting?

You go back to following automatically. You can still read the plan’s supporter-only posts until the end of that month.

Can I support two plans from the same creator?

No, one plan per creator. A higher plan already includes the posts of the cheaper plans.

Why can’t I find the follow button on a creator I support?

Because you’re already supporting them. FANBOX switches you from following to supporting, and supporting covers everything following does.
