myfans DM-Only Sales: Buying Content Sent to You by Message

Updated and checked against the myfans help centre on 3 November 2026

Short answer

A DM-only sale is a paid post that reaches you inside a direct message instead of on a creator's profile. The message shows a thumbnail, a price and a purchase button, with the content itself locked. If you buy, the full video or images open. Three features of the format matter before you pay. The price is set for that particular sending, so the same content arriving in a different message can carry a different price. Only the users who received the message can buy it; the content is not on the creator's public feed. And after purchase, cancellations and refunds are, in the official wording, in principle not accepted. The format is described in the official Japanese article for users, and two creator-side articles fill in the parts a buyer can also see: limited quantities and purchase deadlines.

How it looks in your messages

The official user article describes the receiving side directly. When the content arrives by DM, the thumbnail, the selling price and a purchase button are displayed, and the main content stays locked and unviewable until you buy it. The purchase starts from the "buy" button on the content in the DM.

The creator-side article adds why you will not find the same item by browsing. DM-only sales use posts set to limited publication, which do not appear in the feed or in search results. The article draws the contrast with ordinary single-post sales, which are public to everyone on the feed and in search, and describes the DM format as the one sales method where the creator chooses who receives the offer. An item you cannot find on a creator's profile or in search can still be a DM-only sale, because the format uses limited-publication posts.

How buying works

The user article gives the flow in three steps. Press the "buy" button on the content you received. Check the details on the payment screen and pay. When payment is complete, the main content becomes viewable. The phone verification rule from the rest of myfans applies before any payment: verification must be completed before you can be charged, one number verifies one account, and numbers beginning with 050 cannot be used.

The payment methods are listed in the DM article itself: credit card (Visa, Mastercard and JCB), BitCash, Paidy (described there as あと払い), atone next-month payment (convenience store or direct debit), and deferred payment (convenience store or bank ATM). The conditions on those methods sit in the general payment article, not in the DM article; for overseas readers the relevant one is that the Japanese payment article applies a domestic-number condition, a Japanese number that can receive SMS, to the pay-later methods as a group. Cards and BitCash are the listed methods without that condition; the DM article does not say anything further about BitCash for this sales type, so check the payment screen.

The price belongs to the message you received

This is the part of the format that surprises buyers, and the user article states it in terms. The price is set for each DM sending. If the same creator sends you the same content again in a separate message, the price that applies is the price set on the message you received, which may differ from the earlier one. The creator-side article explains the mechanism: the price is set at the time of sending, not when the post is created, and in a broadcast sending, the recipients of that one sending all get the same price.

Two practical consequences follow. Comparing the price in your message with the price another fan mentions tells you little, because you may be looking at different sendings. And the payment screen for your message shows the price that applies to you, which is the step the official flow itself puts in front of you before payment completes.

Deadlines and limited quantities

A DM-only sale can carry a purchase deadline. The official article on deadlines says a creator can set one for any sending, up to a maximum of three days ahead; if none is set, the sale has no deadline. When a deadline is set, the remaining time is shown in your DM screen and on the post detail screen opened from it: "x days left" while more than a day remains, then a countdown in hours, minutes and seconds inside the last day. Once the deadline passes, the display reads that the purchase period has expired, the item cannot be bought, and trying to buy it produces a message that this DM-only sale has ended.

A broadcast sending can also have a quantity limit. The creator-side article says the number of copies can be set anywhere from 1 to 100; when the limit is reached the item is sold out and no further purchases are possible, and the display near the thumbnail changes from the number of copies, to the number remaining, to "sold out". If several users try to buy the last copies at the same time, the article notes that a purchase already in progress can still fail with a sold-out message if another buyer's purchase completes first. The creator-side article states that users who have already bought are not shown the sold-out or deadline prompts.

After you have bought

The user article states where the purchase lives. Bought content can be viewed repeatedly from Account Information, through the "Purchases and Saved" tab, to the Library, to Purchase History, or directly from the DM. Use the purchase history entry to confirm what you bought and when, as with other myfans purchases.

One deletion rule is stated in the user article and should be read before paying, because it differs from what plan membership might lead you to expect: if the content is deleted by the operator, it may become unviewable even though you bought it. The article's wording is "may", and this guide keeps it at that. The same article gives the refund position in one line: after purchase, cancellations and refunds are in principle not accepted.

Quick answers

Can anyone buy a DM-only sale?

No. The user article states that only users who received the sending can buy it, and the creator-side article says these posts do not appear in the feed or in search results.

Why is the price different from the one in an earlier message?

Because the price is set per sending. The price on the message you received is the one that applies to you.

Is there a time limit?

Only if the creator set one. A deadline can be set up to three days ahead; with none set, the sale has no deadline. A remaining-time display in the DM tells you which case you are in.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

The official position is that cancellations and refunds are in principle not accepted after purchase.

Where do I watch after buying?

From the DM itself, or via Account Information, the Purchases and Saved tab, the Library and Purchase History.

Is there an official English article about DM-only sales?

No. As of this check, the articles on this feature exist in Japanese only; the user article's ID returns no English version.
