Short answer
From Canada, you’ll join MyFans with a +1 number, pay a yen price with a Canadian-dollar card, and work around a time difference of 13 to 16 hours, which in British Columbia changed in 2026. Here’s what Canadian fans need to know, using MyFans’, the banks’ and the governments’ own pages.
Entering a Canadian number for SMS verification
On MyFans’ phone verification screen, choose Canada (+1) in the country selector, not United States: both use +1, but the list has a separate entry for each. The number box then shows (506) 234-5678 as its example. Type your own mobile the same way, area code first, and request the 6-digit code by SMS or voice call.
MyFans requires phone verification before you can pay. It excludes numbers starting with 050 and lets one number verify only one account. That’s an exclusion list, not a promise that every other number will receive a code. Paidy, atone and MyFans’ post-pay options need a Japanese number that can receive SMS, so with a home number you’ll be paying by card.
If the code screen shows an error, our phone verification guide has MyFans’ fixes.
What Canadian cards charge on a payment in yen
MyFans lists Visa, Mastercard and JCB, and accepts credit, debit and prepaid cards where the card allows it. Each Canadian issuer sets its own fee on a non-CAD purchase. Two examples from the banks’ own pages:
| Bank and card | Foreign-currency fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| TD Cash Back Visa Infinite | 2.5% | Added after the payment network converts the amount to Canadian dollars |
| Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite+ | None | Exempt from Scotiabank’s conversion fee; the exchange rate still applies |
| Other Scotiabank cards (non-exempt) | 2.5% | From Scotiabank’s general fee footnote; your card’s disclosure governs |
TD also notes that the network may convert on a different date from your purchase date. These are examples, not a Canadian average, so check your own card’s foreign-currency terms.
Paying in yen: how the amount can change
MyFans’ terms (article 14(2)) say fan-club prices are shown in Japanese yen and settled in the equivalent foreign currency. MyFans’ payment page adds that the conversion uses the rate set by the payment company, such as your card issuer, and that the issuer may add an overseas transaction fee. So the yen price stays fixed, while the amount in your own currency can move with the exchange rate.
So your ¥ price stays the same each month, but the Canadian-dollar amount on your statement can move a little, and the conversion date may not be the day you joined.
We haven’t yet confirmed whether MyFans’ checkout ever offers to charge you in your own currency. If any merchant makes that offer, it’s called dynamic currency conversion (DCC): Visa says the exchange rate, the markup and both amounts must be shown, and you must be able to say no.
The rest of checkout is covered in our MyFans payment guide.
If your card is declined
A low or zero fee doesn’t mean a card will be accepted. MyFans says some cards are refused by its payment-system company, that the decision is that company’s, and that it can’t give a list of which issuers work. We don’t list banks that “block” MyFans, because none of the card companies we checked publishes such a rule. If a card fails, our card declined guide goes through the checks in order.
Age rules in Canada
Adult content rules depend on where you live, and you must be 18 or over to use MyFans.
You may have read about Bill S-209, a federal bill on age verification for online sexually explicit material. Parliament’s LEGISinfo tracker shows it at second reading in the House of Commons, with debate on 24 September 2026. It is a bill under consideration, not a law in force. This is a summary, not legal advice.
Canadian time zones and your renewal date
A monthly plan renews on the same calendar day the next month (shorter months move it to the last day), and MyFans asks you to cancel by the day before. MyFans doesn’t say which time zone that day follows, so the times below are simple arithmetic from official UTC offsets (Japan Standard Time is UTC+9), not a statement about MyFans’ billing clock.
| Where you are | Japan is | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Eastern time, daylight (e.g. Toronto, Ottawa) | 13 hours ahead | 9 pm on the 14th is 10 am on the 15th in Japan |
| Eastern time, standard | 14 hours ahead | 9 pm on the 14th is 11 am on the 15th in Japan |
| Vancouver and BC’s Pacific-time area (UTC−7 year-round from March 2026) | 16 hours ahead | 9 pm on the 14th is 1 pm on the 15th in Japan |
British Columbia made its last spring-forward change on 8 March 2026 and removed the November rollback, so the affected Pacific-time area stays at UTC−7 all year. If an older chart tells you Vancouver is 17 hours behind Japan in winter, it’s out of date. Time rules in Canada are set by each province and territory, so check yours. Whatever your zone, Japan is already in tomorrow for your evening: cancel a full day or more before the renewal date. Our cancelling guide shows where.
