MyFans vs Fantia vs Fanbox for Overseas Fans

Updated 9 October 2026 · Checked against the MyFans help centre: 9 October 2026

Short answer

For card payments the platforms differ sharply. MyFans lists Visa, Mastercard and JCB. Fantia accepts only JCB and American Express, with 3-D Secure. pixivFANBOX lists Visa, Mastercard, JCB and American Express, plus PayPal with an R-18 restriction. Billing differs too: MyFans renews on the date you joined, while Fantia and FANBOX bill at the start of each month.

MyFans, Fantia and pixivFANBOX are the three Japanese fan-subscription sites overseas fans ask about most. They differ most in the thing that matters abroad: which cards and payment methods they take. Every fact below comes from each platform’s own help pages, checked on 9 October 2026.

Paying by card from abroad

Card brand is the first thing to check, because the three lists barely overlap. A Visa or Mastercard holder can use MyFans or FANBOX but not Fantia. An American Express holder can use Fantia or FANBOX; MyFans’ payment page doesn’t list Amex, and its coupon page says Amex can’t currently be used with coupons. JCB works on all three.

All three warn that a card may fail even when it’s a listed brand. MyFans says its payment company alone decides which cards it accepts. Fantia accepts only cards set up for 3-D Secure, and may require SMS verification and limit use after a large amount of card spending in a period. FANBOX says a 3-D Secure problem may be the cause of a failed card registration, and that you should contact your card company.

Debit and prepaid cards: MyFans says they can be used but may not work. FANBOX confirms one prepaid card, VANDLE CARD, and says other prepaid and debit cards may not be supported.

Other ways to pay

MyFans’ non-card options are BitCash, plus three Japanese services that need a Japanese SMS-capable number. See paying without a credit card for what each covers.

Fantia sells its own prepaid balance, Tora Coin, at ¥1 per coin. Its help lists ways to top it up, including JCB, American Express, PayPay and BitCash. Fantia’s convenience-store payment carries a ¥200 fee (tax included).

FANBOX accepts PayPal, but says PayPal can’t be used to support creators posting R-18 content if you hadn’t used PayPal on FANBOX before 21 March 2024, 6 pm Japan time. Its pixivcoban balance is for residents of Japan only. FANBOX charges no handling fee of its own for PayPal, card or pixivcoban payments, and ¥120 per pledge at convenience stores.

FANBOX also says VAT eligibility is decided automatically from the country of your card (where it was issued) or of your PayPal account.

Billing and cancelling

MyFans renews each plan on the same date you joined — join on the 15th and you’re billed on the 15th each month. Cancel by the day before; MyFans doesn’t refund problems caused by cancelling on the renewal day. Our cancellation guide has the steps.

Fantia and FANBOX both work on calendar months. Fantia charges continuing plans on the 1st of each month, whatever day you joined. FANBOX charges at the start of each month, and if that payment fails, your support stops automatically and FANBOX emails you.

None of the three offers a prorated refund when you stop partway through a period.

Which one should you use?

This is our summary, not platform policy. Usually the creator decides it for you: most creators run their main page on one platform, so start with where the person you want to support posts. Then check that your card brand is accepted there before you sign up.

If you’re choosing between platforms where a creator posts on more than one, compare the plan contents and prices on each — they’re set separately. For MyFans specifically, our MyFans vs OnlyFans guide and using MyFans from abroad explain how it works for overseas fans.

We only compare these three because their official help pages answer the questions above. We don’t cover sites whose official terms we can’t check.
